Practice Catch and Release – help protect our valuable stocks

Many anglers practice catch and release in order to protect our valuable fish stocks for future generations.  Indeed, we are pleased to report that, on Angling 2000 beats, a very high proportion of fish are returned.  Please keep up the good work!

 

The following are a few useful tips for those wishing to effectively practice catch and release:

  1. Use barbless hooks at all times (or flatten the barb) and avoid trebles
  2. Minimise the time spent playing a hooked fish
  3. Wet your hands before touching the fish
  4. Carry forceps to remove hooks
  5. Release the fish as quickly as possible and do not remove it from the water
  6. Support the fish in the water until it is sufficiently recovered
