36) Geens Mill
(3 tokens) (1st April – 30th Sept)

1450m of single bank sea trout fishing. This beat gets a run of sea trout from late April, with the chance of a salmon in a late summer spate. It is a very small stream but gets a run of peal to 6lb in the summer. On one trip last season, we counted 22 sea trout to about 1.5lbs in 3 pools and catch returns showed a best fish of 13”. Best year so far was in 2003 when 15 sea trout to 3lb were caught. The trout fishing is moderate to poor with few decent fish although last season saw an av. catch of 4 fish/rod to 10”. Methods for catching the sea trout on such a small stream are different, if fly fishing try a short 7-8ft powerful rod and fishing in the gloaming. The summer peal can be caught on a carefully presented nymph or dry fly by day, but worm and Mepps (size 2/3) are better, especially during, and straight after, a summer spate (can also be very good following a spring tide).
